Precautions for Carbide Gun Drilling Tools

1. Carbide is a hard and brittle material. Carbide and alloy steel drill pipes have different thermal expansion coefficients, which will produce stress. Before welding, the parallel straightness of the drill pipe and the alloy head must be done, and processing is required. After cleaning the oxide layer on the surface of the cemented carbide and the drill pipe, clean the surface with medical alcohol (99.99%) normally and apply flux. It is best to use a 50% pure silver brazing sheet (or composite soldering sheet) To avoid cracking the welding surface of cemented carbide caused by stress concentration, it is not suitable to heat rapidly during welding. The optimal welding temperature during welding is 690±10℃. After welding is completed, the temperature will be about 400℃ after the solder has solidified. When disassembling the gun drill, place it in an insulating barrel (the conventional one in China is lime) or a thermostat, stabilize it for a certain period, and then cool it with the furnace to eliminate stress.

 

2. The gun drill should use coolant during the grinding process to prevent thermal stress caused by local overheating caused by dry grinding.

 

3. Before drilling, the gun drill must be supported by the guide sleeve or the guide hole before starting the spindle. When using it, always pay attention to whether the gun drill is normal and check whether the main blade is damaged. If there is damage, stop using it and use a special gun drill. Drilling and grinding fixtures and standard grinding drawing parameters are used for grinding, so as not to affect the processing efficiency and quality and cause unnecessary troubles. For blades with excessive chipping, the tool needs to be cooled during grinding to avoid breaking the welding surface. It is recommended to grind after wire cutting. The grinding wheel size for normal grinding gun drills is between 180-320#. If the grinding wheel is too thick, it will cause large chipping on the cutting edge, which will affect the efficiency and processing effect.

 

4. Select different gun drill product grades, cutting parameters, and feed rates for different processed material objects, to achieve the best effect of gun drill.

 

5 Carbide gun drilling tools should be stored in a dry environment away from a corrosive atmosphere.
